(L to R) Best in Show Dermot Dunne’s Lexy Lily of the Valley, Judge Mrs Jacqui Embleton, Reserve Best in Show Janet Mcmullan’s Bernemcourt Innuendo
After a prolonged period of absence it was decided in 2007 to reintroduce the Bernese Mountain Dog Club of Ireland’s Open Show. Despite a positive response and credible entries, the Committee felt that the Open Show should be used as an opportunity to attract new exhibitors. With this in mind, we decided to drop the Champions class from the 2010 show. We were fully aware that in doing this we would possibly halve out entries but felt that, if we intended to encourage newcomers, it was the only way forward.
In the weeks preceding the show, the club received numerous enquiries from members who had not exhibited before and from those interested in acquiring a Bernese. A number of the existing members were keen to come along and watch the proceedings but not quite ready to take to the ring!!! The entry numbers were as expected but were also complimented by an excellent attendance of both newcomers and their dogs who preferred to watch the proceedings and avail of the opportunity to meet fellow Bernese lovers!
Our judge for the day was Mrs Jacqui Embleton (Bernemcourt) and she found her Best Bitch and Best in Show in Dermot Dunne’s Lexy Lily of the Valley (Monalou Dutch Courage - Gerrans Geisha Girl) Best Dog and Reserve Best in Show went to Janet Mcmullen’s Bernemcourt Innuendo (Ir Ch. GB Ch. Bernemcourt Sirocco - Kyleburn Night Opal of Bernemcourt). Best Puppy in Show went to Eddie Doyle’s Beechanger Voltor Levi (Duntiblae Brave Protector - Duntiblae Raison D’etre). Eddie tells me it’s his first time in the ring after a twenty year absence!!! Welcome back!!
Refreshments were available ringside and the majority of those attending stayed to chat long after completion of judging. The atmosphere ringside was friendly and upbeat and the feedback one hundred percent positive.
I truly feel this was a very large step forward in the direction the Club hopes to continue in the future. I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank the members of the committee for their hard work and efforts and most especially everyone who attended and made this event the success it was. I look forward to seeing you and your Bernese at a Club event in the very near future!
